Carbon Counting

In a world where the impacts of climate change are happening all around us
and where carbon is likely to be the currency of future generations, it makes
sense to take and audit of the carbon stored in our forests.  Tasmania's cold
climate rainforests hold up to 5 times the carbon of  tropical forests in
countries such as Indonesia and yet the Tasmanian State Government have
Allowed companies like Gunns Timber Ltd to log these forests for wood chip.

The Wilderness Society has linked with several universities and carry out
regular carbon counts in these pristine forests, in order to provide accurate
and up to date data, with which to confront those trusted with protecting
our environment and guarding against global warming. Volunteers are called
for throughout the year, to help conduct these recordings. It is a great way
of getting to know our beautiful forests on an intimate basis and a fun
weekend to boot.

The Tarkine Wilderness Area

Fellow film maker Brent Melton was in the Tarkine when A WORM in the APPLE
was being filmed. He made a short video on how this pristine wilderness is
being destroyed. See the documentary here
